“Who says a penguin can’t fly?” They can get married to a hula doll & fly off for their honeymoon too! Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa is an appealing sequel to the 2005 film Madagascar about the continuing adventures of Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Marty the Zebra and Melman the Giraffe. The movie takes off showing about Alex’s early life to Africa, and how he reached the Central Park Zoo in New York. It soon moves to shortly after the point where Madagascar left off as the animals plan to return to New York. They board an airplane, which crash-lands in Africa.

Alex is reunited with his family, while Marty, Melman & Gloria also meet other animals of their own kind. The four animals feel that Africa is where they truly belong. Meanwhile, the penguins carjack a tourist jeep in order to rebuild the airplane.

The evil lion Makunga is plotting to usurp the kingship of the pride. He tricks Alex and manages to get him banished, and succeeds in becoming the alpha lion. Other problems crop up as Melman starts believing he is nearing death, and also can not accept Gloria dating Moto Moto, another hippo as he is secretly in love with her; Marty feels he has lost his uniqueness and the watering hole which is the home all animals begins to dry up. How the four friends resolve the problems is what is to be seen!

Some awesome water juggling by the zebras and the sometimes innocent, sometimes satirist humor makes the film endearing. It tells a fantastic tale of friendship and bonding and at times surpasses the previous movie. A must watch for kids and adults alike, Madagascar 2 indeed proves “Laugh has no boundaries!”
